SUMMARY:Writing the Body: A poetry Thoughtshop with Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer and Karly Randolph Pitman
DESCRIPTION:We can have so many complex feelings about our bodies – love\, joy\, fear\, appreciation\, disgust\, grief\, resignation. Our relationships with our bodies are rich and multi-faceted! There are the things we treasure – what our bodies experience\, hold\, and do. There are the ways our bodies just are – this temporary house for the soul. And there are our bodies themselves – their frailty\, strength\, and the ways they hold and shape our lives. \nJoin us for a one day\, online writing retreat where we’ll use meditation\, mindfulness\, and poetry to learn\, share and write our way into a more generous\, deeper connection with our bodies. What might our bodies have to share with us? How might they want to meet us? How might we want to meet them? Together\, we’ll explore this rich mystery. \nWe’ll be meeting on zoom on Tuesday\, September 24th from 8 am-3 pm PST/9 am-4 pm MST/10 am-5 pm CST/11 am-6 pm EST time. We offer three payment options: $125\, $150 or $175 USD. The retreat is limited to 20 participants. If the retreat is full\, kindly contact us to join the waiting list. \nLearn more and sign up here.

SUMMARY:Book of Love - 2024 class
DESCRIPTION:Friends\, this is my favorite class to facilitate\, and one that’s perfect for you if you’re needing rest from the ‘work’ of healing. \nThe Book of Love is a playful\, art based class to reconnect to your wholeness:  to birth the deeper story that lives underneath our experiences of loss\, disconnection\, rupture and trauma. \nIn this class you’ll be crafting a journal – using a blank book that you fill with images\, stories\, symbols and more – to create a book of connection\, a chronicle and witness to your soul’s story. Through this creation and through sharing a space with others\, you’ll reconnect with your deepest self\, soften shame\, and embolden courage. \nClass begins on Thursday\, August 15th. Webinars are on Thursdays from 1 to 2:30 pm. You can learn more and sign up here. \n

SUMMARY:When Food is Your Mother: Healing the Shame of Food Distress
DESCRIPTION:In this signature workshop\, you’ll learn why and how food can become a substitute attachment – a place of soothing\, regulation\, connection\, and attunement – and not just a ‘bad habit’ of overeating. From this perspective\, food addictions are emotional bonds that serve core needs and regulate the nervous system. \nAnd with this insight\, we can approach overeating with more empathy\, understanding and clarity\, leading to less shame\, less stigma\, and a greater possibility for change. \nThis event is being hosted by PCPSI\, Professional Counselling and Psychotherapy Seminars Ireland. \nThis workshop is suitable for all levels and is especially pertinent for helping professionals – therapists\, counselors\, social workers\, and coaches – as well as medical professionals who want to better understand the emotional dynamics that lie underneath a distressed relationship with food. \nYou can learn more and sign up for this event here.

SUMMARY:When Food is Your Mother - 2023 class
DESCRIPTION:For many people\, overeating and binge eating are not just “bad” habits or coping strategies but emotional bonds – a ‘mother’ that they turn to for comfort\, holding\, soothing\, regulation\, and nurturing. \nSelf soothing with food is a well intentioned coping mechanism to feel safe\, secure and connected in the face of isolation\, intense emotions\, powerlessness\, or pain. \nIn moments of overwhelm\, this emotional bond with food – and the needs that drive it – can override other needs\, such as a need for health or nurturing limits. In this class\, you’ll learn how to nurture the internal and external safety that enables you to soften your bond with food and deepen your connection to yourself. \nThe weekly webinars are on Thursdays\, alternating between 2 and 6 pm central.

SUMMARY:When Food is Your Mother - 2022 class
\nThis class is open for registration. Tuition is $475 USD or two monthly payments of $240. \nYou can learn more here.

SUMMARY:Book of Love - 2021 class
DESCRIPTION:When we experience heartache\, hardship\, or pain\, or when we struggle with something long term like illness or trauma\, it’s easy to feel like ‘damaged goods’ – like there’s something wrong with us. \nOur struggles can become the lens through which we see ourselves\, coloring our perceptions and beliefs about who we are. In the wake of this separation\, we often lose our connection with ourselves:  our hopes and dreams\, abiding goodness\, capability\, and trustworthiness. \nThe Book of Love is a playful\, art based class to reconnect to your wholeness:  to birth the deeper story that lives underneath feelings of disconnection. \nIn this six week class\, you’ll be crafting a journal – using a blank book that you fill with images\, stories\, symbols and more – to create a book of connection\, a chronicle and witness to your soul’s story. Through this creation and through sharing a space with others\, you’ll reconnect with your deepest self\, soften shame\, and embolden courage. \nYou can learn more here.

SUMMARY:When Food is Your Mother
DESCRIPTION:It’s easy to look at overeating or any kind of overdoing with food as proof of ‘badness\,’ a moral failure. It might seem like a lack of character or strength. \nBut there are good reasons why you overeat! When we feel overwhelmed\, stressed\, and caught in painful emotions\, everything in our neurobiology is wired to connect. \nIn the absence of true connection\, we can turn to other places of safety and holding – like food. When we’re under stress\, we can turn to food as a ‘mothering presence’ – a place of care\, nurturing\, and understanding. \nSo the motivation behind overeating is to offer ourselves care – to self nurture. \nIn When Food is Your Mother\, you’ll learn how to soften a pattern of using food for self nurturing\, soothing\, and stress relief and how to deepen true refuge – true connection – with yourself\, with others and with life. \nWhat makes When Food is Your Mother unique is that it weaves in the understanding and insights of attachment science and developmental psychology into the area of overeating. \nThis is our signature course and has been called ‘life changing’ by those who’ve taken it.
