Karly Randolph Pitman
I offer training and consulting for individuals, parents, organizations, schools, the medical community, and helping professionals around these core areas:
Understanding the roots of food suffering – support for helping professionals, medical doctors, and community wellness programs to make sense of overeating, food addiction, and binge eating and support the healing process
Parent consulting rooted in a compassionate, attachment based developmental approach – support for parents, families, helping professionals, schools, and community organizations to support children’s emotional well being
Organizational consulting – learn how the principles of attachment science can help you create a thriving community organization, sports team, workplace, or spiritual community
More about my approach
"When we approach things with reverence, they have powerful ways of approaching us." - John O' Donohue
My perspective is rooted in the principles of developmental psychology, relational psychology/attachment, village making, and IPNB, interpersonal neurobiology.
IPNB brings together neuroscience, biology, the nervous system, attachment science/human development, and psychology to understand how we’re shaped by our relationships, and how these relationships impact our physical, mental and emotional health.
This perspective makes sense of our core human need for connection and relationship, what arises when these core needs are missing, and how our relational needs and hungers impact our well being.
In my own life, these teachings changed how I saw myself, helping me make sense of what was underneath my own personal struggles – including some very sticky eating disorders and chronic anxiety.
I love sharing the principles of relational science because they give us insight to better understand people – whether it's ourselves, our loved ones and neighbors, our co-workers, or those in our care, like our clients and students. Once we understand these principles we have eyes to ’see’ what drives behavior, including our most befuddling and frustrating patterns.
I love the moment when understanding dawns and we see a human being – whether it's ourselves or another – in a new light. We can feel it in our bodies and in our bones, how our frustration softens, our judgment softens, and we rest in a renewed compassion for what it is to be human. Our relationship to what we've been struggling with changes.
Insight + a change of heart towards our problems is a powerful combination! With this insight, the way through – the 'what to do' or 'how to respond' – becomes clear. We become agents of relationship, helping our clients, co-workers, children, loved ones and students mature, soften what’s become rigid, develop a relationship with their emotions, and reach their full potential.
That’s what I love about this work, both in my own life and in my consulting, and what’s underneath my own yearning: to nurture relationship, the womb of our unfolding, healing and becoming.
Once we see these principles at work in our lives, we can't unsee them, and we become life's 'dance partner' in the dance of human flourishing. I'd be honored to support you in your dance.
Examples of past clients include IUPUI Medical School, The Jewish Community Center of La Jolla, Lululemon, The Montana Association of Montessori Teachers, and PCPSI Psychotherapy Seminars of Ireland.
