lie gently and wide to the light-year
stars, lie back, and the sea will hold you.” – Phillip Booth, First Lesson
Friends, welcome to the pre-class exercise for When Food is Your Mother!
This exercise will help you bring compassion to yourself when you feel caught in feelings of “Everything’s going wrong!” It comes from an exercise that I did in a recent Q&A webinar – they found it so helpful that I wanted to share a version with you here.
It’s especially helpful in wiring in a feeling of rest and security, a sense of being held and cared for in the healing process.
You can use this exercise when you’re having a hard day, have hit an obstacle, or are feeling caught in food – that feeling like everything’s going wrong.
When this happens, our emotional brain and limbic system can get really activated. Our minds can spin, telling us things like “There’s something wrong with me!” or “I’ll never heal!”
Ouch – this can be so painful!
In this exercise, I walk you through a self compassion exercise where you bring presence, connection, and nurturing to the part of you that feels scared and reactive, softening the feelings of alarm, frustration, fear and self attack.
Ah – it brings such relief. I look forward to hearing what you experience in the exercise.
